| Verticillium Habitat and Health Implications |
| Found in decaying vegetation, on straw, soil and arthropods. Verticillium is a major plant pathogen causing vascular wilt. Allergenicity has not been well studied. Verticillium produces an antifungal compound vergosin and an antitumor antibiotic. Rarely causes inflammation of the cornea. A few cases of keratitis have been reported. May be identified on surfaces by tape lifts, tease mounts from bulk samples, and in air by culturable samples. |
