Verticillium

Habitat and Health Implications
Found in decaying vegetation, on straw, soil and arthropods. Verticillium is a
major plant pathogen causing vascular wilt. Allergenicity has not been well
studied.
Verticillium produces an antifungal compound vergosin and an
antitumor antibiotic. Rarely causes inflammation of the cornea. A few cases
of keratitis have been reported. May be identified on surfaces by tape lifts,
tease mounts from bulk samples, and in air by culturable samples.
