| Torula Habitat and Health Implications |
| Cosmopolitan fungi commonly found on wood, leaves, plant roots, soil, dead herbaceous stems, sugar beet root, nuts, oats and plant litter. Found indoors on cellulose containing materials such as jute, old sacking, wicker, straw baskets, wood and paper. May be identified on surfaces by tape lifts, tease mounts from bulk samples and in air by spore trap samples. It is reported to be allergenic causing hay fever and asthma. There are no reports of human infection or toxin production. |
