| They are pathogens of plants that cause smut on various hosts including cereal crops, grasses, weeds, and on other flowering plants. Smuts do not usually grow indoors but are detected in air and dust samples. It is reported to be allergenic causing hay fever and asthma. No reports of human infection or toxin production. |
