| Scopulariopsis Habitat and Health Implications |
| Found in soil and decaying vegetation, wood, grain, fruit, paper, and food such as meat and dairy products. It has been found growing in indoor environments on a wide variety of materials including drywall, paper and wood. Scopulariopsis has been recovered from culturable air, spore trap and dust samples. Most species can liberate arsenic gaseous compounds that can lead to arsenic poisoning. Usually a contaminant but there have been some reports of allergies and as an agent for certain types of nail infections. It has recently been associated with invasive human infection. |
