| Mucor Habitat and Health Implications |
| Found in soil, dead plant material, hay, stored seeds, horse dung, fruits, and fruit juice. It is also found in leather, meat, dairy products, and animal hair. It is common to find some spores in normal house dust, HVAC system dust, and poorly maintained carpets. It's a minor allergen and can cause Zygomycoses and lung infections in compromised individuals. Toxin production is not know. Mucor is detected on tape lifts and in air by culturable samples. Mucor produces proteolytic enzymes used in cheese production. |
