Mucor

Habitat and Health Implications
Found in soil, dead plant material, hay, stored seeds, horse dung, fruits, and
fruit juice. It is also found in leather, meat, dairy products, and animal hair. It
is common to find some spores in normal house dust, HVAC system dust,
and poorly maintained carpets. It's a minor allergen and can cause
Zygomycoses and lung infections in compromised individuals. Toxin
production is not know.
Mucor is detected on tape lifts and in air by
culturable samples.
Mucor produces proteolytic enzymes used in cheese
production.
