Reported to be allergenic causing hay fever and asthma. Some species are important mycotoxin producers. Fusarium can produce Vomotoxin, T-2 Toxin, Fumosin, Zearalenone Toxin and Trichothecene. Some species are recognized as opportunistic pathogens of man (frequently involved in eye, skin and nail infections) and animals. Fusarium causes keratitis, endophthalmitis, onychomycosis, mycetoma, and disseminated infection in immunocompromised patients; infections in burn victims, and systemic opportunistic infections in severely disabled hosts. |
