| Epicoccum Habitat and Health Implications |
| This species has been isolated from plants, soil, grains, textiles, paper products and food materials. It is mostly saprophytic, or weak plant pathogens. Can be found in indoor environments, where it can grow under conditions of low humidity. Epicoccum is frequently isolated from air and occasionally detected in house dust. Reported to be an allergen causing hay fever and asthma but not in high frequency. Due to the ability of this fungus to grow as 37˚C, it can cause infection of skin in humans. It produces antibiotic substances such as Flavipin, Epicorazine A & B and indole-3- acetonitrile. |
