Habitat and Health Implications
This fungus is commonly found as a saprophyte in soil and plant material. In
addition to being a common contaminant, it has also been recovered from
animal material, cheese, and nuts. Can cause disseminated and pulmonary
infections in immune compromised hosts. No information is available
regarding other inhalation health effects, or toxicity. Allergenicity has not
been studied. Rarely found indoors but may be identified on surfaces by
tape lifts, tease mounts from bulk samples, and in air by culturable sampling.
