Chaetomium

Habitat and Health Implications
It is found in soils, dung, decaying organic matter, seeds and wood or other
cellulose-containing materials. It is a common cause of food spoilage. It can
be found indoors in water-damaged buildings on air, sheet rock, wallpaper,
and other paper products. It is reported to be allergenic but rarely causes
human infections (uncommon agent of nail infection). It has been reported to
produce Chaetomin, Chaetoglobosins, and Sterigmatocystin toxins. Used in
textile testing and the production of cellulase.
