| Chaetomium Habitat and Health Implications |
| It is found in soils, dung, decaying organic matter, seeds and wood or other cellulose-containing materials. It is a common cause of food spoilage. It can be found indoors in water-damaged buildings on air, sheet rock, wallpaper, and other paper products. It is reported to be allergenic but rarely causes human infections (uncommon agent of nail infection). It has been reported to produce Chaetomin, Chaetoglobosins, and Sterigmatocystin toxins. Used in textile testing and the production of cellulase. |
