Aureobasidium

Habitat and Health Implications
Aureobasidium is a saprobe frequently isolated from soil, plant surfaces,
seeds, grains, other food, human skin, and nails. It is widespread in the
indoor environment and is common in places which moisture accumulates,
such as in bathrooms, kitchens, shower curtains, tiles, window frames and
poorly maintained HVAC systems. Allergies to
Aureobasidium are common.
This species has also been reported to cause chromoblastomycosis (in an
immunocompromised patient), which is a chronic cutaneous infection of the
skin. No toxic diseases have been reported.
